Panchkula, March 24, 2025 – Infertility remains a growing concern, with many couples struggling to conceive despite undergoing multiple IVF cycles. Addressing this critical issue, renowned fertility specialists Dr. Hrishikesh Pai, Director, Fortis Bloom IVF, Dr. Pooja Mehta, Head of Department, Fortis Bloom IVF Centre, Mohali, and Dr. Shobna Verma, Consultant, Fortis Bloom IVF Centre, Panchkula, shared their insights on IVF failures and advancements in fertility treatments.

Dr. Hrishikesh Pai emphasized that access to a well-equipped IVF lab plays a crucial role in determining the success of fertility treatments. He explained that IVF failure primarily stems from two factors: embryonic and endometrial. Embryonic issues may arise due to poor egg quality caused by conditions like endometriosis, poor ovarian reserve, premature ovarian failure, or severe Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).

Dr. Pooja Mehta highlighted that severe PCOS and blocked fallopian tubes are among the leading causes of infertility in women, while male infertility accounts for nearly 30% of cases in India. She stressed that IVF should not be the first option for every couple, as nearly 90% of infertility cases can be treated with simpler medical interventions, with only 10% requiring IVF.

Dr. Shobna Verma explained that the success rate of IVF varies with age, typically ranging from 40-50% in women under 35, decreasing significantly in older women. She shared real-life cases where patients with repeated IVF failures conceived naturally or successfully after undergoing specialized treatments like DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI) testing, Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI), and Laser-Assisted Hatching (LAH).
