CHANDIGARH, 18.04.25-The Postgraduate Hindi Department of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised an educational tour to Kurukshetra with the objective of providing students an opportunity to understand the context of Krishna literature, written during the Bhakti period, from the historical and cultural point of view. Visit to Krishna Museum, Jyotisar, Brahma Sarovar, and Dharohar Museum, provided valuable insights into Krishna literature. The students observed various paintings, sculptures and manuscripts related to the life of Lord Krishna in the Krishna Museum. The artifacts displayed there helped in understanding the various forms of Krishna described in Bhakti period literature. Visit to Jyotisar, which is famous for the preaching of Gita by Shri Krishna to Arjuna during Mahabharata, helped students assimilate the eternal principles of Gita, and comprehend the influence of Gita on the literature of the Bhakti period poets. As the students visited Dharohar Museum- a living symbol of the folk culture and traditions of Haryana, the students got to understand the rural life, folk traditions and the effects of the Bhakti movement described in the works of the Bhakti period saints. Brahma Sarovar was the last stop of this trip; the historical and religious significance of this holy place prompted discussion among the the students on the importance of water element and pilgrimage sites in the poetic compositions of saints associated with Krishna devotion. From an educational point of view, this trip helped the students to understand the relevance of Mahabharata, Gita and Krishna Bhakti literature in the current social perspective, and at the same time the curiosity of the students towards literary, cultural and philosophical subjects increased as they tried to connect it with academic research. The students found this trip extremely informative and inspiring.

Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma praised this initiative, and said that such educational trips create interest in literature among the students, and also develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for literature.
