MAHENDERGARH, 13.02.25-The International Conference on Advancements in Material Science for Sustainable Development (AIMS-2025), organized by the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, Central University of Haryana (CUH), commenced on Thursday with a strong focus on cutting-edge research and global sustainability. The three-day conference, held under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, aims to foster discussions on recent advancements in material science and sustainable development. The event is co-sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), and various industry partners, with participation from over 200 national and international delegates.
Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, graced the inaugural session as Chief Guest, emphasizing material science’s role in sustainable technologies. His plenary talk highlighted superconductive materials for power transmission, maglev trains, and energy storage. He also discussed India’s Hydrogen Valley Platform under the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the Gati Shakti Bharat program for infrastructure development, underscoring India’s commitment to clean energy and sustainability.
The session also featured Prof. Ravi Kumar from NIT Hamirpur and Prof. Amita Chandra from the University of Delhi as Guests of Honour. Prof. Ravi Kumar discussed p-type transparent conducting and magnetic oxide materials for optoelectronics, sparking discussions on electronic and magnetic devices. In her keynote address, Prof. Amita Chandra showcased pioneering research on p-type polymer electrolytes for energy devices.
Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, expressed his delight at hosting such a prestigious conference at CUH. He emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary research and international cooperation in addressing contemporary scientific challenges. He also encouraged young researchers to actively participate and contribute to groundbreaking innovations in material science.
Earlier, while addressing the gathering, Prof. Sunita Srivastava, Head of the Department of Physics and Astrophysics and Convenor of AIMS-2025, welcomed all participants and outlined the conference's objectives, stressing its significance in fostering scientific collaborations. Prof. Suneel Kumar, Registrar, CUH, and Co-convenor of the conference, acknowledged the efforts of the organizing team and reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering research that aligns with global sustainability goals.
In the afternoon session, Dr. Marta MD (MIT, Poland), Dr. Govind Gupta (CSIR-NPL, Delhi), Dinesh Kumar Shukla (UGC-DAE CSR, Indore), and Dr. Amit (CUH) delivered technical talks. In the evening session, scientists and researchers from renowned institutions worldwide deliver insightful talks in two parallel sessions, further enriching the academic discourse. The day concluded on a vibrant note with a Cultural Programme, where university students showcased a variety of regional dances, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of India.
With a dedicated team of faculty members and research scholars working tirelessly to ensure the success of the event, AIMS-2025 is poised to be a significant step toward strengthening scientific discourse and collaboration in the field of material science.
