LONG-STANDING DEMAND OF LEHRAGAGA FOLKS FULFILLED WITH LAUNCH OF BUS SERVICES BETWEEN LEHRAGAGA-HOSHIARPUR AND MOONAK-KHANAURI

Chandigarh/Lehragaga/Sangrur, March 16:Taking another remarkable step towards providing major benefits to the residents of Lehragaga constituency under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Cabinet Minister Sh. Barinder Kumar Goyal, on Sunday, flagged off buses on two new routes from the Lehragaga Bus Stand.

While addressing the gathering, Cabinet Minister said that traders and local people traveling from Lehragaga to Hoshiarpur often faced difficulties during their journey due to the lack of direct bus service. He informed that from now onwards, a bus will depart daily from Lehragaga Bus Stand at 6:45 AM, traveling via Sunam, Sangrur and Ludhiana and reach Hoshiarpur by afternoon. The return journey will begin from Hoshiarpur at 2:37 PM. The passengers traveling on this 422-kilometer route will experience significant relief with this new service, he added.

Cabinet Minister further informed that the second bus service will cater to passengers traveling from Moonak to Khanauri, adding that students in particular faced considerable hardships due to the absence of government bus services on this route and now this problem has been permanently resolved.

Sh. Barinder Kumar Goyal specially expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Transport Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar and PRTC Chairman S. Ranjodh Singh Hadana for their timely support. He said that while previous governments neglected the demands of villages including bus services and other public needs, the Punjab government led by the Aam Aadmi Party has initiated a wave of development projects in all these villages and there is no shortage of development work in any village or city across Punjab.

Prominent amongst others who were present included Gaurav Goyal, Market Committee Chairman Sheeshpal Anand, PA Rakesh Kumar Gupta, retired teacher Ramesh Kumar, Commission Agent Rakesh Kumar, Nand Lal and Dr. Sethi.

CHANDIGARH/LUDHIANA, March 16:In a major breakthrough against organised crime amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) in a joint operation with Ludhiana-Rural Police arrested the main accused involved in the firing at Ladoo Lekhe Wale Jewellery Showroom in Jagraon, after a brief exchange of fire near village Sadarpur in Ludhiana, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

The arrested accused, identified as Krishan of Basti Mansian Wali in Zira, Ferozepur, is an operative of foreign-based Gangster Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dala. Police teams have also recovered one .32 calibre pistol along with two cartridges from his possession.

As per the information, two bike-borne individuals had opened fire at the Ladoo Lekhe Wale Jewellery Showroom in Jagraon on March 5, 2025 to intimidate the owner, who had also received an extortion call from gangster Arsh Dala. In this regard, a case FIR No. 48, dated 05-03-2025 had been registered under section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station City Jagraon, Ludhiana Rural.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that arrested accused Krishan opened fire at Jewellery Showroom in Jagraon on directions of his foreign based handler Arsh Dala. Further investigations are on to establish backward and forward linkages in this case, he added.

Sharing operational details, ADGP AGTF Promod Ban said that following intel and human-based inputs, police teams tracked accused Krishan in the area of Village Sadarpur, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Sidhwan Bet, Ludhiana Rural.

Teams of AGTF in the supervision of AIG Sandeep Goel and DSP Rajan Parminder Singh in joint operation with Ludhiana Rural Police when intercepted the accused Krishan at Sadarpur village, the latter opened fire at the police team in an attempt to evade arrest, prompting the police teams to retaliate in self-defence.

“During the exchange of fire accused Krishan sustained bullet injury on his right leg. The latter was admitted to the local Civil Hospital for medical treatment and said to be in stable condition,” said the ADGP, while adding that police teams have recovered a .32 calibre pistol from his possession.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ludhiana Rural Dr. Ankur Gupta said that a fresh FIR No. 53, dated 16-03-2025, under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act, has been registered at Police Station Sidhwan Bet, Ludhiana Rural, in this regard. Further investigation is on, he added.

CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, March 16:In a decisive crackdown on drug networks amidst the ongoing anti-drugs campaign ‘Yudh Nadhian Virudh’ launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Rural Police has busted a narco-terrorism hawala racket with the arrest of two Hawala operators and recovered Rs 17.60 lakhs and $4000 (US dollars) from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

Those arrested have been identified as Sukhjit Singh, a resident of Fatehpur and Ranbir Singh, a resident of Anngarh in Amritsar. Apart from recovering Indian and foreign currency, police teams have also recovered one HP Laptop containing crucial transaction records from the possession of accused persons.

The development came following meticulous investigations and sustained follow-up of backward and forward linkages in the arrest of accused Gursahib Singh and Jaswant Singh near Village Hardo Ratan after recovering 561 grams of heroin from their possession on Friday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Border Satinder Singh, while addressing a press conference said that during the ongoing investigation into the 561 gm Heroin seizure by the Amritsar Rural Police, the arrested accused exposed their links with two Hawala operators identified as Sukhjit Singh and Ranbir Singh, and other drug supply chains. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested duo were facilitating illegal financial transactions linked to drug trafficking, he added.

The DIG said that further investigations are ongoing to establish backward and forward linkages in this case. More arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days, he added.

Sharing operation details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh acting on credible information, police team successfully apprehended both Hawala operators from India Gate, Chheherta in Amritsar and recovered Indian and Foreign currency along with one HP laptop from their possession. Further interrogation is underway to uncover more links in this Hawala network, he said.

In this regard, a case FIR no. 57 dated 14-03-2025 has already been registered under sections 21-C, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Gharindha in Amritsar Rural.

Meanwhile, since the commencement of special campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ from March 1, 2025 in the districts of Border Range Amritsar, as many as 337 drug smugglers have been arrested after registeration of 192 cases under the NDPS Act. Police teams have recovered 41 Kg Heroin, 1 Kg ICE, Rs 26 lakh and 4000 US Dollars Drug Money, six Motorcycles, nine four wheelers and 21 Mobile Phones from their possession.

Chandigarh/Ferozepur, March 16:In its ongoing campaign under ‘War against drugs’, Ferozepur Police and District Administration today demolished house of a drug paddler who is already facing three cases and still absconding. The action was initiated in Jhuge Hazara village where the accused had illegally build a house and had also encroached upon one acre land of the Forest Department.

SSP Ferozepur Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that the accused has been identified as Gurcharan Singh, who built an illegal house in the village falling under Sadar police station of Ferozepur.

A JCB Machine was pressed into service by the administration which razed the house. He said that now the one acre land encroached upon by the accused too would be released soon.

He further said that the action is taken on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav. He added that a large number of drug smugglers are already arrested recently by Ferozepur Police under this ongoing campaign.

He said that action will be taken against every drug dealer who is selling drugs in the district. He instructed the drug sellers to leave this work, otherwise similar actions will be taken in future and the property made with the illegal money will be confiscated or razed to ground.

Meanwhile, large number of villagers who witnessed the demolition drive appreciated the initiative taken by the Punjab Government. They said that the action taken against drug peddlers is highly commendable. They hope that such actions will completely eradicate the menace of drugs during the coming days in Punjab.

CHANDIGARH, March 16:With the war against drugs “Yudh Nashian Virudh” waged by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eradicate drug menace from state entered 16th day, Punjab Police conducted raids at 424 locations on Sunday leading to the arrest of 63 drug smugglers after registration of 45 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 2012 in just 16 days.

Police teams have also recovered 385 grams heroin, 19 kg poppy husk, 2673 intoxicant tablets/pills/injections and Rs 15600 drug money from the possession of arrested drug smugglers.

The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav simultaneously in all 28 Police districts of the state.

Notably, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has asked the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendent of Police to make Punjab drug free state in three months. The Punjab government has also constituted a 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to monitor the war against drugs.

Divulging details, Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla informed that over 200 Police teams, comprising over 1400 police personnel, under the supervision of 98 gazetted officers have conducted raids across the state and checked as many as 593 suspicious persons during the day long operation.

The Special DGP said that with the state government has enforced a three-pronged strategy— Enforcement, Deaddiction and Prevention (EDP)— to eradicate drugs from the state, the Punjab Police as part of ‘De-addiction’ has convinced three person to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.

Meanwhile, Punjab Police has also carried out search operation at different jails in six districts— Commissionerate Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Batala, Amritsar Rural and Tarn Taran— to check any illegal activities in the jail. “Our Police teams have thoroughly searched every nook and corner including barracks, kitchen and toilets in the jail complex,” said Special DGP Arpit Shukla.

CHANDIGARH, March 16:In a decisive move to uphold the rule of law and ensure justice, Punjab Police is all set to bring back seven key aides of Amritpal Singh of Waris Punjab De (WPD) from Dibrugarh Jail to Punjab and formally arrest them in Ajnala Police Station attack case to face the law and consequences of their actions, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

The DGP further stated that those who are being brought back to Punjab, have been identified as Basant Singh of Daulatpura Ucha in Moga, Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke of village Bajeke in Moga, Gurmeet Singh Gill alias Gurmeet Bukkanwala of village Bukkanwala in Moga, Sarabjeet Singh Kalsi alias Daljeet Singh Kalsi of West Punjabi Bagh in New Delhi, Gurinderpal Singh Aujla alias Guri Aujla of Phagwara, Harjeet Singh alias Chacha of village Jallupur Khera in Amritsar and Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal alias Kulwant Singh of Rauke Kalan in Moga.

Presently, all these individuals are detained under the National Security Act (NSA) in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail from last two years.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that a high-level strong police party headed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Harinder Singh Gill is stationed at Dibrugarh Jail to execute the arrest of the seven detenues upon completion of their NSA detention period. The Punjab Police will subsequently produce them before the Hon’ble Court in Dibrugarh to secure transit remand, ensuring their swift return to Punjab to face trial, he added.

As per the information, on February 23, 2023, Amritpal Singh and his supporters took refuge under Sri Palki Sahib with parkash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and attacked Ajnala Police Station to free their associate identified as Lovepreet Singh alias Toofan. In this regard, Amritsar Rural Police had registered a case FIR no. 39 date 24/2/2023 under sections 307, 353, 186, 332, 333, 506, 120-B, 427, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station Ajnala.

Sharing more details, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Border Range Satinder Singh accompanied by SSP Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh, while addressing a press conference, said that starting from Monday, seven of the 10 detenues will be brought back to Punjab to face trial in different cases registered across the state. “We will make their (seven individuals) formal arrest in FIR no. 39/23 registered at Ajnala Police Station to begin investigations in the case,” he said.
