State government to develop Rs. 80 crore ropeway project in Kullu

SHIMLA -24 February, 2025-Under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Himachal Pradesh Government was committed to developing world-class tourism infrastructure across the state. In a significant step towards enhancing tourism in Kullu district, the government has approved the construction of an Aerial Ropeway from Kullu Bus Stand to Peej Paragliding Point with an estimated cost of Rs. 80 crore.

A government spokesperson stated that the 1.20-kilometer ropeway would provide a safe and convenient transport option for tourists, improving accessibility to Peej village, which is located 12 kilometers from Kullu by road. Peej serves as the gateway to the picturesque Lug Valley, and this initiative is expected to boost tourism activities thereby strengthening the local economy, and create new opportunities for adventure enthusiasts.

He said that once completed, the ropeway would offer easy access to Peej Paragliding Point, making it an ideal destination for both novice and experienced paragliders. This project was a part of the government’s broader efforts to promote adventure tourism, religious tourism, and water sports tourism, recognizing the tourism sector as a key pillar of the state’s economy. The State Government was also taking pro-active measures to promote eco-tourism in the State, aiming to provide tourists with closer experiences of the wilderness and virgin ecosystems while ensuring the conservation of the natural resources, he added.

The spokesperson emphasized the state government’s unwavering commitment to developing a robust tourism infrastructure, ensuring that every opportunity in the sector is fully utilized. He highlighted the proactive initiatives of the present State Government, which have led to a significant rise in tourist footfalls, greatly boosting Himachal Pradesh’s economy. With approximately 2 crore visitors arriving each year to experience the State’s majestic mountains, stunning landscapes, pristine rivers and diverse trekking opportunities, tourism in Himachal Pradesh was thriving like never before, he added.

Speed up the process of setting up 'Viewing Deck' at Hasan Valley directs Deputy CM

SHIMLA-24 February, 2025 -Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri presided over a meeting here today to review the progress made on the development of the 'Viewing Deck' in Hassan Valley near Dhalli, Shimla.

It was apprised that a Detailed Project Report of Rs.18 crore is in final stage, which comprises of around 600 sqm Glass Viewing Deck which will be suspended on nine ropes from the hillside and will accommodate around 700 to 800 persons at a time. It was also apprised that the project needs the diversion of forest land as it has been proposed to be set up in the Hasan Valley, a declared Wildlife Sanctuary area.

Sh. Agnihotri directed to complete the DPR of the project within the next ten days and submit the same to the Director Tourism to accord Administrative Approval & Expenditure Sanction and funds for the same. He also directed the concerned authorities to prepare and follow up on the Forest clearances under FRA for the diversion of land so that it could be a major attraction for the people of the state and the tourists as well.

Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh who was also present on the occasion remarked that this would be an iconic project and an attraction for the tourists visiting the state.
