CHANDIGARH, 18.03.25-The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Department of Botany, organised an awareness session on ‘Community based Solutions for Waste Management’ for the residents of village Badheri and Buterla. The session was held at Community Centre, Sector 41, Chandigarh. Dr. Manoj Kumar, Chairperson, Centre for Public Health, Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the resource person for the session. Dr. Kumar shed light on the pernicious effects of using plastic, thereby emphasising upon the need to replace plastic bags with cloth bags, and to move towards the revival of the environment. The session elicited forthcoming response from the residents of the two villages who surrendered their plastic bags and wholeheartedly accepted the transition to the use of cloth bags. The cloth bags that were distributed among the residents were sponsored by the UBA Cell. Mr Hardeep Singh, the Councillor of Buterla and Badheri, applauded the efforts of the college and the UBA Cell in fostering such activities.
Officiating Principal Ms Suman Mahajan expressed appreciation for the efforts of the UBA Cell aimed at bringing about transformation in rural communities, thereby aiding in the development of the country.
