Chandigarh, August 22:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh continued its intensified zone-wise enforcement drive against vendors operating from unauthorised locations despite being allotted designated vending sites.

During today’s drive, the Enforcement teams took action against vendors found vending outside their allotted sites and issued 80 challans for violations. The action forms part of the Corporation’s sustained efforts to regulate street vending, ensure compliance with the designated vending system and keep public spaces free from unauthorised occupation.

The Corporation reiterated that vendors allotted sites through the prescribed draw-of-lots process must operate strictly from their designated locations. Vending from old or unauthorised sites will not be permitted.

The enforcement action is being undertaken in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Civil Appeal No. 4400 of 2026, Malkit Singh and Another versus State of U.T. Chandigarh & Others, and in accordance with the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 and Chandigarh Street Vending Bye-Laws, 2018.

The MC Commissioner directed field teams to maintain strict vigil and ensure that vendors removed from unauthorised locations do not reoccupy such sites.

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh reaffirmed its commitment to a disciplined, regulated and orderly street-vending system, balancing the rights of eligible vendors with the need to protect public spaces and ensure smooth movement for citizens.
