CHANDIGARH, 15.02.25-An Invited Lecture on the theme “Introduction to Bio-surfactants and their role in environment sustainability” was organized by Department of Zoology, GGDSD College, Chandigarh, under the aegis of PM USHA Scheme on 13th Feb, 2025. Dr. Neena Mehta, Professor at Rayat Bahra Dental College and Hospital, Sahauran, Mohali. Punjab acted as resource person.
Dr. Neena, discussed the role of Surfactants and how they can have both positive and negative impacts on the environment. The speaker not only emphasised upon recognizing their potential but also acknowledged the need to approach their application with caution, particularly when it comes to ensure their contribution positively to sustainability. She made students clear about the difference between surfactants and biosurfactants. Biosurfactants are more eco-friendly and safer for use in various applications, particularly in medicine and cosmetics, and their benefits was explained nicely. Top of Form

The lecture was followed by interactive session. Dr. Sajeev Soni, Dean Sciences & IT appreciated the efforts of Zoology Department for organising such informative talks with scientific aptitude. The invited lecture ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Indu Mehta, Head, Department of Zoology. She expressed the importance of critical evaluation, and the collective responsibility toward environment.
Principal, Dr. Ajay Sharma, added that these activities not only provide academic knowledge but also foster critical thinking along with awareness about various environmental issues, with deeper understanding of the interconnections between technology and sustainability.
