Chandigarh, October 19 In consonance with the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to strengthen the cooperative sector, Special Chief Secretary to CM Mr VK Singh on Saturday directed the officers to expedite the ongoing process of computerisation of Primary agricultural Cooperative Societies(PACS) and complete the process by December 31.

Chairing a meeting of State Level Implementation and Monitoring Committee (SLIMC), the Special Chief Secretary underlined the importance of Primary Agriculture Society as back bone of the Cooperative Movement in Punjab. He said that the societies act as a catalyst in ensuring the well-being of the farmers at the grass root level . Mr VK Singh said that computerisation of these societies will bring about more efficiency and transparency in the functioning of societies thereby immensely benefitting the farmers.

The Special Chief Secretary reviewed the District wise status of ongoing computerisation and asked the officers to ensure the timely and effective implementation of project. The committee also deliberated on computerisation of office of Registrar Cooperative Societies, Punjab and Agriculture Cooperative Banks in Punjab. Mr VK Singh envisioned that the project will further streamline the functioning of PACS across Punjab.

Prominent amongst others present in the meeting included Secretary Cooperation cum Managing Director Punjab State Cooperative Bank Ms Anindita Mitra, Registrar of Cooperative Societies Mr Vimal Setia, representatives of NABARD, Department of Cooperation, Punjab State Cooperative Bank and others.

Chandigarh, October 19:The Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has always kept the interests of all the stakeholders connected with the procurement process at its heart. This is evident from the fact that out of 18,31,588 Metric Tonnes of paddy arriving in mandis of State till yesterday evening during ongoing procurement season, 16,37,517 Metric Tonnes has been procured which is 90 percent.

As regards the payment, nearly Rs. 3000 Crore have been credited into the accounts of the farmers, said the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Punjab, Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak while interacting with the mediapersons here today.

Divulging more, the Minister said that in order to ensure smooth and hassle free procurement season, the State Government has operationalized 2651 procurement centres. Besides, till date 2184 rice millers have applied for the allotment of rice mills.

Coming to the storage space issue, the Minister disclosed that as per the Food Corporation of India (FCI) 9.5 LMT of space is available at present. As milling starts in the month of December, hence by December 2024 nearly 30 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of space would be created, said the Minister adding that this year movement of 4 LMT more foodgrain has been registered as compared to the previous year. This year from April to September 85.53 LMT movement was recorded while the during the April to September period in 2023, the same figure stood at 81.73 LMT.

Concerning the demands of the rice millers, the Minister informed that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has emphatically taken up the various demands of rice millers during meeting with the Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi.

Listing the steps initiated by the State Government aimed at the welfare of the rice millers, Mr. Kataruchak added that the Custom Milling Rice (CMR) securities stuck since many years are being returned to the millers except one year. This has led to the relief of Rs. 150 crore to the rice millers.

Also, in place of earlier CMR security of Rs. 175 Per Tonne, now only Rs. 10 Per Tonne security would be charged leading to the benefit of Rs. 300 crore for the millers. Besides, in this year's policy, the security rate has been fixed in accordance with the tonne capacity whereas during the previous years, this security was levied at uniform rate of Rs. 11 Lakh from every mill. But now, the mill having 2 MT capacity would be charged Rs. 5 Lakh, Mills with 2 to 5 MT capacity would have to pay Rs. 7.5 Lakh while those mills which have capacity of more than 5 MT, would be levied Rs. 11 Lakh.

Apart from this, keeping the interests of Labourers/Palledars working in the Grain Markets in mind, the Punjab Government has revised the rate of loading of sack from Rs. 1.94 to Rs. 2.34.The Minister exhorted all the stakeholders to work in unison to ensure a successful procurement season as the Government is leaving no stone unturned for their welfare.

CHANDIGARH, October 19: In a bid to strengthen law enforcement and community ties as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav in the wee hours of Saturday undertook a surprise tour as part of 'Night Domination' across four districts in the state to inspect various Nakas and Police Stations while directly engaging with officers and citizens.

The whirlwind nighttime visit in districts including SAS Nagar, Ludhiana, Khanna, and Fatehgarh Sahib, was aimed to assess the effectiveness of night domination operations, besides, reviewing the working of special checkpoints and monitoring on-ground police work.

During his tour, DGP Gaurav Yadav interacted with citizens to gather first hand feedback on their experiences with the police. "I am glad to learn that the public feels safer with our increased presence. Our goal is to ensure citizens' security and build trust through transparent and accountable policing," he said.

He also engaged with police officers at the cutting-edge level, reviewing the working of special checkpoints and encouraging them to maintain high standards of professionalism. "These special vehicle checks will continue to ensure enhanced security and effective law enforcement," he emphasised.

Reiterating that curbing street crimes and eradicating drugs from the state as top priorities of the Punjab Police, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that recently Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) were tasked to tackle such crimes professionally and ensure prompt registration of FIRs in such cases. Punjab Police has been identifying crime hotspots, including snatching points, so that police patrolling could be reoriented to prevent these crimes.

"For the last few weeks, I have been actively visiting police stations, interacting with the force, and holding public meetings to boost police morale and strengthen the bond between police and community," said the DGP, while reaffirming the aim of Punjab Police to provide active policing to the people of the Punjab.

Meanwhile, the DGP also assessed the effectiveness of crime combat apps including VAHAN and PAIS (Punjab AI System) at the ground level.

Undertake visits of Focal points to resolve the problems of industrialists: Tarunpreet Sond and Dr. Ravjot tell officers

Chandigarh, October 19:Punjab's Industry and Commerce Minister Mr. Tarunpreet Singh Sond and Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh today held a review meeting for upgradation Industrial Focal Points in the state.

During the meeting, both the Ministers directed the officers to visit the Focal points across the state to resolve their issues on top priority. They said that industrialists are backbone of the economy of the state and the Punjab government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed for ensuring their well being. They said that the officers should ensure that the ongoing works of ULBs are completed as per the given timeline

The Ministers said that All the MC, Commissioners shall visit the respective industrial focal points and check the ongoing works. They said that the list/detail of all the Industrial Associations should be shared with Ministers to review their demands/suggestions/grievances.

They also directed ULBs to prepare a list of Street Light Infrastructure, focal point wise with total number of lights, operational, non operational and new proposed work alongwith fund requirement.

The Ministers said that All ULBs shall ensure cleanliness in all the Industrial Focal Points/ Estates besides deputing O&M wing of MC for proper maintenance of Sewerage system. They said that the encroachments shall be removed by the concerned wing of ULBs. They asked the officers to send regular reports pertaining to these works for constant monitoring.
