CHANDIGARH, 25.09.24-The Skill Development Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, held the valedictory of the first 30-hours’ skill enhancement course organised in collaboration with Centre for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (CSDE), Panjab University, Chandigarh. In this first-of-its-kind collaboration, the college has joined hands with CSDE to launch 30-hours' short term skill enhancement courses for its students with a vision to empower them with skills that enhance their employability quotient and promote self-reliance. The first course in this series- a 6-day workshop on 'Skills of Adorning Fabrics' held under the aegis of Fine Arts and Home Science Departments of the college, culminated here today.

Prof. Suveera Gill, Director, CSDE, Panjab University, graced the valedictory as the Chief Guest. Elated to be at her alma mater, Prof. Gill expressed appreciation for the skill development initiatives of the college that provide the students with opportunities to widen their horizons and equip themselves with skills. Introducing the audience to the concept of micro-learning, Prof. Gill reiterated the importance of short-term skill enhancement courses. Asserting that a skilled young force is imperative for the 4th industrial revolution, Prof. Gill underlined the importance of developing requisite skills. She expressed gratitude to Panjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig for bolstering the university’s mission to increase employability along with enhancement of knowledge. Prof. Gill ended her address by exhorting the students to skill, reskill, unlearn and relearn, and with the Latin expression ‘Floreat Collegium’.

Principal Dr. Bhargava highlighted the prestigious skill development initiatives helmed by the college in the past in collaboration with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India and National Skill Development Corporation.
